Robotic OSB Spray Application System
PRE-TEC's Robotic Spray Application System is the first in North America to employ robotic automation in a spray application system for the OSB industry. The booth provides reliability, using PRE-TEC proven components in conjunction with a six-axis industrial application robotic arm.
As with previous PRE-TEC booths, the robotic booth also features a state of the art four stage air filtration system that uses a down draft rather than a cross draft or up draft filtration. This filtration system employs accessible "tunnels" in the bottom of the booth that result in more efficient filtration. The accessibility of the filter media provide for operator friendly filter changes. The air passing through the fourth filter stage can then be safely released back into the plant environment. (No roof penetration needed)
The exhaust fan motors are controlled by Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). The VFDs automatically increase fan speed to maintain constant airflow through the booth as filter media begins to load. When the filter media needs to be changed, the system will notify the operator via message on the interface. In addition, the system will activate a strobe light on top of the control panel. This alarm can also be sent to a secondary station in the control room if desired.
Another set of key features are the vestibules, which are located at both the in-feed and out-feed ends of the booth. Air movement through the vestibules will increase air velocity into the booth (aimed at maintaining a slight negative air pressure within the booth interior), to aid in keeping the environment clean in the immediate area. Based on design, this airflow into the vestibules will not disrupt the fan of the coating being applied.
Controlled vertical, as offered in this proposal, offers a number of advantages, including:
- Minimizing over spray on the top of the load
- Maximizing the effectiveness of the down-draft filtration
- Offering consistent paint coverage and uniform appearance
Automated Self Cleaning Stencil Application System
The Automated Stencil Application System features automatic, self cleaning between units that result in a clear, sharp logo application every time. Cleaning of the stencil plate will take place between units and will allow the stencil face to come in direct contact with the bundle. This will reduce the possibility of shadowing. All spray tips are readily available for this system, and are easy to clean.
The down draft and filtration design of the Application System will ensure that the area around the system stays clean.
End Stripe Application System Description
The End Stripe system operates as a separate process from the Stencil System, yet shares some of the same controls to reduce cost. It is intended to be integrated with the stencil and is not designed as a stand-alone unit. The stripe system can be placed in line with the stencil system either before, or after the stencil process. If specified at the time of order, the two systems could be fully integrated as one process.
The trade-off for full integration is an increase in cycle time. On the leading and trailing ends of the units, the End Stripe Application System will apply up to six stripes that are approximately 1" wide with approximately 2" in between each stripe. The stripes will be bold with sharp edges. The system can use from one, up to three separate colors.
(example)
- The OSB unit will move to a pre-determined position and stop.
- The Stripe Guns will spray the leading end of the unit as programmed.
- The OSB unit will move forward to a pre-determined position and again stop.
- The Stripe Guns will spray the trailing end of the unit as programmed.
Automatic Nail Line System (manual gun position)
The WVCO PRE-TEC Automatic Nail Line Application System is designed to efficiently apply water-based nail line paint to OSB/Plywood panels. System can accommodate multiple panel configurations and master panel sizes. Please contact us for details.
Robotic Side Protector Application System
PRE-TEC's Robotic Side Protector Application System is designed to automatically apply side protectors to the sides of 4'X8' T & G units. The system is designed to be placed in-line, with the PRE-TEC spray booth (Note: The spray booth is not required for protector application system operation). Units that exit the spray booth are conveyed to the Side Protector Application System. The load stops at programmed location, where the application system will then apply and secure side protectors. When the application process is complete, the load will be conveyed away from the application system and proceed to the Strapping operation.
The PRE-TEC Robotic Wrap Applicator is designed to automatically apply, protective wrapping (and optionally end sealing, labeling and dunnage placement) for multiple length, width and height wood stacks or vertical bundles. The system uses three (depending on options, sometimes four) six-axis robots to perform application functions. The system is designed to be placed in your current finish line/s.
How it works
The Robotic Wrapping System uses a center, overhead mounted robotic arm to manage the placement of the wrap. The two side mounted robotic arms create the folds in the wrap material and perform the stapling process as programmed. The bundle is then conveyed forward where the top and sides of the unit are covered with wrap. The wrap material on the sides of the bundle are fastened with staple guns. (The number of staples used will be determined based on need. The number of and placement of the staples is adjustable). The process will continue until the trailing end reaches the appropriate position and stops. The trailing end is (optionally sealed and) wrapped automatically. When the (optional end seal and) wrapping application process is complete, the unit is conveyed away fromthe application system. Conveyance by others.
Optional End Seal System
The automatic end seal system uses paint rollers to emulate existing processes. The paint rollers are stationed vertically in a container holding end seal. The nap rollers are fully submerged in the end seal paint to prevent the rollers from drying. Units are conveyed to the Robotic Wrapping System utilizing your existing roll-case conveyor. The load stops at a programmed location, where the system will apply the end seal on the leading end, then apply and secure the appropriate leading end wrap. The two Robotic Arms that are mounted on the sides of the line will perform the application of end seal. If end seal is not required for your product(s), the end seal process may be turned off.
Optional Labeling and DunnagePlacement
The system is intended to pick labels and dunnage pieces and place them on a wrapped load as it is fed through a customer's existing banding machine. The robot's end-of-arm tool will consists of vacuum grippers for picking labels and dunnage.
Vacuum end-of-arm tool pads are used to pick labels from printer and place them at the appropriate places on the load. The vacuum pad configuration allows for handling of two sets of labels.
The dunnage vacuum gripper picks pre-cut dunnage from a bin and places it on top of the load as it travels through the existing bander. Two dunnage bins and one bin stand are supplied with the optional system. Only one bin can be located on the stand at a time. This allows the second bin to be loaded with pre-cut dunnage outside of the cell.
Dunnage handling and label applying are two separate placement functions that must be carried out independently.
